The Edmonton Oilers made a handful of roster moves ahead of their game with the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday.
Mattias Janmark and Dylan Holloway have been placed on the Long-Term Injured Reserve while Raphael Lavoie, Adam Erne, and Philip Broberg have been recalled from the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.
Oilers recall Lavoie, Broberg and Erne.
Place Holloway and Janmark (retroactive to Oct 26th) on LTIR.— Jason Gregor (@JasonGregor) November 15, 2023
Janmark has been held off the scoresheet in seven games this season and hasn’t suited up for the Oilers since October 26 because of a shoulder injury. The Oilers placed Janmark on the LTIR retroactive to that date and he’s missed seven games this far, so he’ll be eligible to be activated ahead of Edmonton’s game with the Carolina Hurricanes next week. Players must be expected to miss 24 days or 10 NHL games in order to be eligible for the LTIR.
Holloway suffered a knee injury during Edmonton’s game against the New York Islanders on Monday when he fell awkwardly into the boards and the expectation is that he’ll miss “a few months” as a result. It’s an unfortunate break for the sophomore as Holloway appeared to really be hitting his stride over the past few games.
Placing Janmark and Holloway on the LTIR has opened up the salary cap flexibility for the Oilers to call up three players from their minor-league affiliate, so they now have an active roster that features two extra skaters rather than one.
Prior to using LTIR, #LetsGoOilers likely 1st called up Broberg in order to include his perf bonuses in LTI pool.
They then captured LTI with $35K Cap Space. After adding Janmark/Holloway to LTI, called up Lavoie/Erne.
Now have $276K Cap Space in LTIR.https://t.co/Q9xJGl2AO2

Erne earned a contract with the Oilers after coming to training camp on a PTO and appeared in six games with the club before being sent down to Bakersfield. Broberg has suited up for eight games with the Oilers this season and has two points in four games with the Condors. Lavoie was sent to the AHL on Tuesday but that was just a paper transaction as he remained with the team.
Also worth noting about Lavoie is Tuesday’s transaction doesn’t restart his clock when it comes to waivers. If a player clears waivers as Lavoie did in October, they aren’t eligible to go on waivers again until they’ve either played 10 games or spent 30 days on an NHL roster. Wednesday’s game against Seattle would be Lavoie’s sixth with the Oilers this season.
