A man of very few words, outfielder Nick Markakis — or better known in Atlanta as “Kakes” — has played his final game with the Braves as the 37-year-old announced his retirement from baseball on Friday, ending an MLB career that spanned 15 seasons and featured 2,388 hits.
Markakis is a three-time Gold Glove winner, a Silver Slugger winner and a 2018 All-Star. He compiled 189 home runs and 1,046 RBI and his career comes to an end with a .288/.357/.423 slash line.
Unfortunately for Atlanta, this continues a trend.
The 36-year-old went through a reinstatement process with Major League Baseball and is ready to return to the field.
